The Origin of the Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party was a political organization that stood up for one of the most powerful movements in America during the sixties. The Black Panther Party was the only organization in the entire US history that opposed the oppression of the black community composed of black people only. The Black Panthers fought against the slavery and the oppression, they fought for equality, justice and freedom of the black community.
The Black Panther Party was created due to the violent way many people and groups acted during the sixties. Groups like the Ku Klux Klan and the blind eye the congress turned toward the black community. The Black Panthers were born because lynching was an ordinary thing among blacks and because blacks where denied the right to vote, the right to worship, and the right to use public facilities. The Black Panther Party was an organization that was created by the visions of one man, Huey P. Newton, the son of a Louisiana family that lived in Oakland, California. In 1996, after the assassination of Malcolm X and the rise of Martin Luther King Newton gathered Bobby Seale and David Hilliard, among other friends, and thus the Black Panther Party came to be. Originally, the Black Panther Party was named the Black Panther Party for Self Defense and the black panther was used as its image due to the strong image this animal created. The phrase “self defense” was used to set apart the organization belief.
Shortly after their birth the Black Panther Party created the Ten Point Program. This Ten Point Program stated the organization fundamental wants and needs of the black community. The Ten Point Program was created for the purpose to readdress and change of the pain suffered by the black community in America, who despised the end of slavery during the Civil War, where still being oppressed and separated from the America community. The Ten Point Program demanded the freedom for blacks to have the right to defend themselves and the end of oppression.
The Black Panther Party not only fought for the rights of the black community, it also inspired the start of other organizations. These organizations fought for the rights of not only blacks but also for the rights of Mexican Americans, Chinese, Puerto Ricans and elderly people. As a result the Black Panther Party grew from a small organization in Oakland to a national organization that extended to forty-eight states. The Black Panthers also received international support from different groups in Japan, China, France, England, Germany, Sweden, Mozambique, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uruguay, Israel, and other countries.
The Black Panthers ideas and actions were so drastic that the chief of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, announced that the Black Panthers where a threat to the security of the United States. In July 1977 due to a combination of reasons the Black Panthers came to and end. However, all their hard work played an important part in the history of America and even after the Black Panther Party came to an end their struggle and achievement will forever be remembered.
The Black Panthers History and Believes
The Black Panther Party was an organization that fought for the self defense of back people in the United States from the mid sixties to the late seventies. The Black Panther Party was originally known as the Black Panther Party for Self-Defense Party. Through hard work the Black Panther Party achieved both national and international fame for there involvement in the Black Power movement and there involvement in US politics.
The Black Panthers Party was created by Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton on October 15, 1966 in Oakland California. The organization consisted mostly of young African Americans that wore a uniform that consisted of blue shirts, black pants, black leather jackets, black berets, and loaded shotguns that where freely display. The Black Panthers had ten strong believe that they strongly fallowed and fought to protect. These ten believe soon came to be known as the “The Ten Point Program”.
• The Ten Point Program consisted of the fallowing ideas:
• Freedom
• Full employment hours and privileges for black people
• An end to the oppression of the Capitalist towards the black community
• Decent housing and shelter
• Decent education that exposed and taught the history of black people and the role they played on present-day society
• Free healthcare
• An end for the brutality, abuse, and murder committed to the black community and other people of colored by the police around the United States
• An end to wars of aggression
• Freedom that included trials by jury for people charged with so-called crimes. Freedom for all black people in US federal sate, county, city and military prison jails and freedom that included trials by jury for people charged with so-called crimes.
• Land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice, and peace for all black people
The Black Panthers were politically involved in attempts to stop the outlaw committed to African Americans. As such, in 1967 the Black Panthers marched to the California sate capital. As the Black Panther party grew so did the conflicts they had with the law enforcement in where many Black Panthers lost their lives.
The Black Panthers also offered free survival programs to the black community. These programs included the free breakfast for children in Oakland churches, free clothing, classes on politics and economics, free medical clinics, lessons on self defense and first aid, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, and a few more programs.
Although the Black Panther group did many good things they where also well know for their violence. In 1968, J. Edgar Hoover, the director of the FBI, described the Black Panthers as “the greatest threat to the internal security of the country.” In 1974 the Black Panthers eventually decline due to rising legal cost and internal disputes.
Many years after the Black Panthers dissolved, their influence is still felt. In October 2006 the Black Panthers held a 40-year old reunion in Oakland, California and on July 31, 2004 the National Alliance of Black Panthers was formed. This organization was inspired by the Black Panthers but the two organizations are not otherwise related.
